Cement Shipments Drop 2% in January

Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in January 2021 were 6.7 million metric tons (Mt), a 2% decrease from shipments in January 2020, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in January 2021 were, in descending order, Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama. 

The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Georgia and Arizona) received 46% of January shipments. 

Masonry cement shipments totaled 177,000 metric tons in January 2021, a 7% decrease from those in January 2020. The leading masonry cement-consuming states in January 2021 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia; these states received 60% of January shipments.

Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled 5.7 Mt in January 2021, a slight increase from production in January 2020. The leading clinker-producing states in January 2021 were, in descending order, California, Texas, Missouri, Florida and Alabama.
