The Grand Slam Secondary HSI features two new product developments, a new grinding path and apron adjustment system. The Crush Plus Grinding Path System creates a third crushing chamber to maximize one-pass product yield, minimize oversize, improve material soundness and produces highly cubical product. The Max-Yield Automated Apron Adjustment System maintains gap setting adjustment for aprons and the grinding path. PLC-controlled Max-Yield improves one-pass product yield and reduces product changeover downtime. Stedman's Grand Slam Model GS4860 with Crush Plus and Max-Yield will be featured at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2008 at Booth C5423. Stedman, (+1) 800-262-5401

SCALABLE MOBILE CONTROLLER
This leader in information, monitoring, and control systems will introduce several new products at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2008. The main focus will be the introduction of Hirschmann's Scalable Mobile Controller. The system was designed to control and monitor machine function as well as offer the option of load moment indication. The versatility of the system allows it to be installed on virtually any machine. This scalable approach allows it to be used in any application from monitoring standard control functions to the most complicated custom control solution. Also on display will be a new line of graphic operator consoles, which can be used with the Scalable Mobile Controller or with the company's load moment indicators (LMI). They are available in various sizes, with color or monochrome displays offered. These consoles include CANbus, Ethernet, USB, and video (FBAS) interfaces and are available with several different operator interfaces including, keys, rotary dial, or touch screen. The company will also display their line PAT, Krueger, and Hirschmann branded load moment indicators, indicating devices, and sensors for OEM and retrofit applications, including the iVISOR maestro LMI upgrade system. DUST SUPPRESSION
The latest designs in dust suppression technology for construction and demolition will be on display at ConExpo/ConAgg 2008, held March 11-15 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This company will feature two models in booth GP-50034, including the company's flagship — the DustBoss DB-60 — as well as the smaller DustBoss DB-30. Both ducted fan units are designed specifically to optimize particle size and velocity for maximum dust capture and control.
The DustBoss DB-60 is built to handle the big jobs, with a throw of more than 200 feet. The rugged design is capable of blanketing a 21,000-sq-ft area with droplets that are 50 to 200 microns in size, the optimum for effective particle attraction and maximum dust / odor control. A series of 30 specially designed brass nozzles atomize the water, which is then launched by a powerful 25-hp fan that generates 30,000 cfm. Equipped with a 10-hp booster pump to increase water pressure as much as 150 psi from a 2-in. supply hose, the DB-60 has an adjustable throw angle from 0 to 50 degrees, and the oscillating head delivers 40 degrees of motion for outstanding coverage. The unit also can be outfitted with a dosing pump to accommodate odor-control additives or surfactants to further enhance binding of dust particles.
For smaller jobs, the DustBoss DB-30 captures dust particles more effectively than many larger machines. Mounted on a movable carriage, the versatile unit has a 7.5-hp motor that generates 9,200 cfm. Like its bigger cousin, it features a ring of 30 specially designed brass nozzles that atomize the water supply to droplets between 50 and 200 microns in size for maximum particle attraction. The ducted fan design has an adjustable throw angle from 0 to 50 degree elevation and oscillates to 70 degrees. With a reach of 100 feet, it delivers exceptional coverage of a 5,500-sq.-ft. area from a standard ⅝-in. garden hose. Because of its compact size, the DB-30 can be an extremely effective option for indoor locations or confined spaces. The machine comes with a 1½-in. pre-filter with quick cam release for easy access, and it can be set up to run potable or non-potable water. Options include single-phase or international motors, explosion-proof motors, secondary filter system, and dosing pump. Dust Control Technology, (+1) 800-707-2204

ONLINE SAFETY TRAINING
This firm has introduced a comprehensive, interactive training program devoted exclusively to worker safety. The program is designed to provide individuals and companies detailed information on a broad variety of topics to establish and enhance safety procedures. Through a special website (www.flexcosafe.com), users can access presentations, videos, quizzes and installation instructions to both improve workplace safety and maximize performance. The information can also potentially save companies time loss and costs stemming from work related accidents and injuries.
The online training center features 19 training modules, which focus on topics of belt preparation, belt cleaning, belt maintenance and fastener installation. Each module provides PowerPoint presentations, installation procedures, videos, and other relevant information for individual or group training either online or offline. Among the topics covered in the training modules are proper procedures for lockout/tagout safety, squaring and cutting a belt, clamping a belt, and installation instructions for 10 different fasteners from Flexco. Each training program ends with a quiz to be taken individually or administered by a training manger. To facilitate group training, the program also features an account group management system through which training managers can track the topics, timing and test results of individual employees. The training program also demonstrates how the tools and fasteners that comprise the company's Safe system can make individual steps in the conveyor maintenance process faster, easier and safer. SHAFT/COUPLING ALIGNMENT SYSTEM
A new generation of laser shaft/coupling alignment system for quick, accurate, and reliable maintenance work on rotating equipment. Its modular concept allows a user to design their own shaft alignment system, acquiring the exact features needed and add more capabilities as job demands grow or budgets allow. The system's alphanumeric keyboard with navigation, menu keys, and help text produce an easily understood screen picture of measurement results and makes it a user-friendly alignment system. The patented automatic continuous sweep measurement mode evaluates hundreds of readings during shaft rotation. The end result is less shimming and horizontal adjustments because of more accurately measured misalignments. Ludeca Inc., (+1) 305-591-8935

SPRAY NOZZLE LANCES
Twinfluid spray nozzle lances are used in SCR and SNCR processes for NOx control. Ammonia and other liquids, along with air or other gases, are mixed internally prior to atomization to create fine droplet sizes. These air atomized spray nozzle lances are commonly used for ammonia vaporization and injection into the flue gases prior to entering the catalyst bed for an SCR and for the injection of chemicals into the combustion zone in an SNCR. ABB optimizes Buzzi's Signal Mountain plant operations
At Buzzi Unicem USA Inc.'s Signal Mountain plant in Chattanooga, Tenn., the raw mill occasionally created a process bottleneck for the entire operation. Today, that limitation has been overcome via ABB Switzerland Ltd.'s Model Predictive Control (MPC)-based Expert Optimizer solution. Since the process control software was installed on the vertical raw mill and cement mill, the plant reports production increases at both stations.
The variety of ABB solutions implemented at numerous Buzzi plants worldwide suggests that ABB was a natural partner for the Signal Mountain upgrade, the automation technology provider emphasizes. Following installation of Expert Optimizer, started in the middle of September and completed in mid-October 2007, improved raw mill performance has generated an incremental increase in clinker production at the Chattanooga facility. The MPC technology also has stabilized the plant's production process, providing a more consistent feed to the kiln, again resulting in greater output.
The primary function of Expert Optimizer is to achieve continuous process optimization, thus maximizing an operation's profitability and sustainability. Part of ABB's Collaborative Production Management suite, the advanced process control software coordinates the setpoints of multiple parts of the process and immediately detects deviations at various junctures. Expertly applying MPC, Expert Optimizer facilitates plant management by stabilizing and then optimizing production.
Signal Mountain Production Manager Scott Henninger reports, “We've been really pleased with how the installation went and, of course, with the outcome. Having EO installed with its MPC has been a real improvement to production and the business.” ABB Switzerland, (+41) 58-586-88-32, www.abb.com
