EPA-MACT PARTICULATE MONITOR

Article Tools

  • Bookmark

To eliminate manual calibration audits as required by US-EPA for MACT and CAM regulation of fabric-filter dust collectors, a continuous particulate-emission monitor and baghouse-filter leak detector incorporates automatic self checks (zero and span) and signal diagnostics. The monitor's smart sensing innovations improve performance and simplify setup, the manufacturer notes, for induction-sensing and protected-probe technologies that provide enhanced reliability over older opacity and triboelectic systems. Benefits include stack monitoring, detection of filter leaks for maintenance, eliminating cleanup costs, preventing escape of valuable powders, and protection of downstream equipment such as blowers and HEPA filters. BIN VENT/DUST COLLECTOR

The company's bin vent/dust collectors provide air filtration and dust control for dry bulk materials conveyed pneumatically to destination points, such as bins, hoppers, and silos. The bin vent is described by product developers as compact in design and easy to install. Presettable timers clean the filter media automatically with pulse jet air flow, dropping retained material back into the process. Multiple sizes and features are available, including a hinged door for easy bag access and differential pressure gauges that indicate when service is needed. In addition, high-temperature and top-removable designs are offered. Bin vent/dust collectors are constructed of heavy-duty carbon steel or stainless steel. Cyclonaire Corp., (+1) 800-445-0730

MULTI-SPOUT VALVE BAG PLACER.

Designed for severe operating conditions commonly found in packaged concrete, grout and mortar facilities, this unit incorporates servo-driven linear actuators to provide accurate placement of valve bags onto filler spouts at speeds of 7-10 bags per minute per spout. An empty-bag indexing conveyor and wire-mesh belt take-away conveyor complete this automated system for integration into an existing filling line. The company also manufactures valve bag fillers and material reclaim systems for new and remodeled packaging lines. Chantland-MHS, (+1) 515-332-4045

INFRARED SHELL SCANNER

The North and South American representative for Goratec LSC 2000 Linescanner hardware and software systems explains that shell scanners and linescanners are the same product: shell scanners use an infrared sensor to continuously monitor the temperature of all areas of a kiln to create a thermal profile. Accordingly, Goratec technology provides 2,000-plus measurement points on line (versus about 250 for most competitive systems) by which production and maintenance management are able to monitor kiln profiles in real time. The Goratec LSC 2000 Linescanner thus facilitates better prediction and scheduling of preventive maintenance, longer production runs, optimized energy consumption, increased refractory life, and quick reaction to potential equipment and personnel hazards, company representatives note. It combines a sensitive, high-speed infrared sensor with dual-function fiber-optic communications for data acquisition. The “user requested” dual function software — providing simultaneous data acquisition and analysis — is especially useful once a hazard is identified, officials add. Besides complete new infrared scanning systems, Goratec can upgrade communication, processing and analysis functions of competitive linescanners, allowing use of an existing sensor while upgrading the rest of the system to meet latest industry technology standards. CEMENT DENSITY ANALYZER

The Ultrapycnometer-1000 density analyzer is now being introduced to the cement industry. This system uses dry gas, not liquids, to measure the true density of all types of powder cement, additives and concrete. Equipped with interchangeable sample cups, balance interface, PC interface and printer port, samples are analyzed dry and can be covered unaffected for subsequent testing or archiving. Gone are the hazards associated with organic solvents and messy clean up. Quantachrome Instruments, (+1) 561-731-4999, ext. 111

CEMENT PROCESS SIMULATOR

A new 7.0.5 version of the company's ECS/CEMulator includes support of hardware PLC integration into the dynamic simulation of cement production units. This upgrade comprises an extension of the existing capability for complete sequential control and interlocking implementation using Soft-PLC technology. Hardware PLC support enables new ECS control system customers to utilize an off-line and safe training system for their operators and electrical engineers that reflects all details of the control system before it is set in operation. Within the scope of the training platform, the client will also have an integrated process dynamic simulation, similar to the behavior of the real plant, offering a seamless integration between:

  • the actual type of hardware PLC
  • the actual control system program
  • the actual sequence control and interlocking behavior
  • the actual process mimics
  • Device Simulation of all devices involved in the control system
  • concurrent process dynamic simulation of the actual process type

The resultant product, named ECS/CEMulator-Live, is suitable for greenfield projects or process or control system retrofits. Setting new standards for operator and engineer training in the cement industry, product developers note, the simulator ensures a faster plant start-up phase by enabling staff to train on a safe copy of the actual plant. WASTE RECYCLER

The Grand Slam waste recycler, the manufacturer notes, is designed for sizing hundreds of materials and agglomerated wastes into carefully controlled uniform particle sizes, reducing maintenance time and expense. Reportedly capable of handling up to 100 tons of wet and sticky or dry and fibrous materials per hour, it is especially suitable for material destruction for disposal and recycling. Product developers emphasize that the recycler operates economically with low horsepower requirements as it combines impact with shear to easily shred materials. Key design benefits are said to include adjustable product control; four-turn shredder bars for extended life before change-out; exclusive rotor-lock and hydraulic housing actuation for easy servicing; one-piece grate bar assemblies for reduced downtime; and, optional stainless steel construction. Using a complete, full-size test plant for particle-size reduction, processing, and material handling system analysis, the company invites customers to “try before they buy” in order to select the right equipment for their needs. PARTICLE SIZE ANALYZER

This new system combines the accuracy and reliability of this company's traditional analyzer in a more economical instrument. The Ecosizer has a measurement range from 0.5 to 400 µm. An optional video camera provides particle shape information along with the traditional particle size distribution data. The company's patented short optical bench design ensures the system is aligned at all times, eliminating the need to align the analyzer. All optical components are permanently fixed to a cast iron base plate to ensure accurate particle size data. CILAS, (+1) 608-274-7719

RAILCAR CONNECTOR

This company's railcar connector with pneumatically actuated lifters streamlines unloading dual-outlet hopper-bottom railcars. Like its companion model for single-outlet hoppers, the CycloLift is designed to reduce the time and eliminate the spillage associated with the job of mating railcar connectors with hopper slide gates. Pneumatic controls allow operators to elevate the material chute from between the tracks, position the CycloLift adapter plates directly under each hopper slide gate, and mater them firmly against the hopper gates throughout the unloading operation.
