LININGS

Kalmetall-TC (tungsten carbide) is said to withstand the severe impact and abrasion that prematurely wear out other linings, outlasting alumina ceramic as much as five times in actual practice. The lining reportedly works well in processing machinery components and in pipes and elbows for pneumatic and gravity piping systems. Kalmetall-TC also can be used in mixing equipment as well as fan blades handling coal, ore, and other abrasive granular products such as sand, coke, and ferro-silica. Wear- and impact-resistant, the product is a tungsten-carbide alloy utilizing the chemically bonded elements of tungsten and carbon. The hard grains of tungsten carbide are combined through a sintering process into tiles and shapes. Thin, small tiles are available, as well as larger, thick pieces for piping liners. The thin tiles are typically silver-brazed onto the surface to be protected or installed using the Kalbond adhesive process. The larger, thicker pieces are installed as tiles or pipe lining segments with epoxy. Abresist Corp., (+1) 800-348-0717

COLLATED RIVET STRIPS

The Rapid Loader collated rivet strips are said to speed and simplify installation of the company's rivet-hinged and butt-rivet conveyor belt fasteners by loading multiple rivet sets in only 20% of the time needed to load the same number of rivets individually. Plastic strips hold four sets of five rivets in the pattern required for installation, ready for simultaneous loading into 20-rivet MSRT or MBRTA multiple guide-block installation tooling. Each block of 20 rivets, which installs four adjacent fasteners, loads in about seven seconds using the strips, compared with about 35 seconds when single rivets are loaded. Strips are color coded to assure correct rivet size selection for belt thickness and for consistency across the splice. After insertion into guide blocks, rivets are released from the rapid loader strip as each set is tapped with the installation hammer. With blocks preloaded, users hammer-dive five rivets at a time across the belt's width, using a special five-pronged drive rod. The self-setting rivets feature breakaway pilot nails that penetrate the belt without damaging or weakening its carcass. The plastic strips narrow to a thin checkpoint between each five-rivet set, easily broken by hand flexing for tasks requiring fewer than four sets. All eight sizes of the rivet-hinged series, in steel or stainless steel, are available in strips packaged 60 four-set strips (1,200 rivets) per high-visibility yellow bucket — enough rivets to complete two, 48-in. splices. BROKEN BAG DETECTOR

The company's second generation DustAlarm broken bag detector uses triboelectric technology to monitor dust emissions from bag houses and industrial dust collection systems. Compatible with a wide range of powders and bulk solids to meet the needs of virtually any industry, the manufacturer notes, the DustAlarm broken bag detector provides an economical solution for the detection of leaks and filter failures. In operation, an electric signal is generated when dust particles collide with the detector's stainless steel probe; and, an alarm output indicates changes in filter condition, thereby protecting blowers from damage by signaling the time to replace filters. Electronics include sensitivity, alarm-level, and time-delay adjustments to prevent generation of false signals from normal operations. A rugged NEMA 4 housing encloses DustAlarm electronics, while providing easy access for all adjustments; and, plug-in terminal blocks and cable glands simplify commissioning. A multi-colored LED shortens setup time and provides local indication of an alarm condition. Available with either integral or remote electronics, the broken bag detector is especially suited to high-temperature/vibration applications in the remote version.
