With a single robotic palletizer, producers of bagged products can simultaneously palletize the output of three separate, lower-speed production lines. The robot can automatically adjust itself to handle distinctly different bag styles and sizes at the same time. For three lines, the robotic palletizer can accommodate speeds up to five bags per minute per line, for a total cumulative speed of 15 bags per minute. Its multiple-function end effector can also be equipped to handle slip-sheets and pallets. Product developers note that the robotic palletizers require minimal floor space and little maintenance. State-of-the-art robots include built-in diagnostics, easy-to-use pattern programming, and speed capabilities up to 70 cases per minute/20 bags per minute. Columbia/Okura, (+1) 360-735-1952

Waterproof Weighing Indicator

For any static weighing or simple batching application where a waterproof indicator is required, the AD-4407 meter teamed up with an A&D SB platform provides full keypad, counting mode, and VFD display packaged in a washdown stainless steel case. Rugged stainless steel IP-65/NEMA4 housing allows operation in harsh, wet environments and mounts with a swivel desktop/wall bracket. The large, bright, vacuum fluorescent display is easy to read in any lighting situation. The full 0-9 keypad includes tare, gross/net, on/off and two user programmable function keys. For counting applications, the AD-4407 provides Automatic Count Accuracy Improvement (ACAI) functionality.

A&D's exclusive Universal Flexi Coms software allows the user to customize printer format function, as well as the output of the RS-232C interface that comes standard. Capable of performing simple batch weighing, the AD-4407 offers a five-point comparator function that can output to the standard buzzer or optional relays.

The unit has internal and display resolutions of 40,000 counts and an A/D conversion rate of ten times per second. It also includes a digital linearization function and will drive up to eight 350-ohm load cells. Analog output and RS-422/485 are also available. A&D Weighing, (+1) 800-726-3364

Baghouse Filters

Dura-Life industrial baghouse filters are said by product developers to last twice as long as ordinary 16-oz. polyester felt bags. Utilizing Durapex media technology, the filters reportedly offer lower maintenance costs and increased energy savings as they assist in reducing emissions levels in industrial applications. Unlike commonly used polyester bag filters that require numerous changes due to quickly becoming embedded with dust, Dura-Life filters allow for better surface loading of dust to improve pulse cleaning and prevent depth loading. Engineered with a patented Apex technology, an advanced hydroentanglement manufacturing process, the filters also catch smaller particles. Consequently, they require less frequent changing than standard baghouse filters; savings are realized in cost, labor and reduced production downtime.

An independent lab test found that Dura-Life filters produce 47 percent fewer emissions than standard polyester bags on 2.5-micron-size dust particles, which are closely monitored by EPA. They also produce a lower pressure drop compared to standard polyester filter bags, the manufacturer notes, resulting in annual energy savings as high as $5,000 per collector. Dust Collectors

Cyclonic particulate collectors are suitable for the collection of large particulate and for prefiltering. Providing both filtration and separation, “cyclones” are useful wherever the following conditions are present: high-dust loadings, high temperatures, highly abrasive dusts, sticky dusts. Typical applications include chemical processing, cement manufacturing, and ore processing. The cyclones are manufactured to customer specifications in carbon steel, stainless steel, exotic metals or all-polypropylene with urethane, rubber or refractory linings as required. Cyclone Dust Collectors for explosive and high-sparking dusts can be installed in-plant or out of doors. System features include a separate dust collector trap and direct-drive fan to minimize energy use. Tri-Mer Corp., (+1) 513-539-0008

Vehicle Scale Software

OverDrive software allows users to control multiple vehicle-weighing and data solutions across one platform, supplying the information needed to make critical decisions. It connects vehicle scales to a stand-alone PC or integrates them into a local or wide area network. The software can control multiple scale configurations as well as peripheral devices, such as traffic lights, security gates, and unattended weighing stations where drivers may interface directly with the system without need for a dedicated scalehouse operator. Overdrive software manages data from weighing transactions with a ODBC-compliant database where information is stored to create detailed transaction records. Users have instant access to information needed to track orders, compile reports, and comply with industry-mandated regulations. Mettler-Toledo, Inc., (+1) 614-438-4511

Gravity Diverter

The three-way Seal Tite Gravity Diverter is suitable for use in gravity-flow applications to divert the flow of dry bulk material from a single source to any of three destinations. Design features include:

  • Diverter to direct material flow away from the leading edge of the flapper vane;
  • Access door allowing replacement of the flapper vane or seal, if needed, without having to remove the diverter;
  • Live-loaded, wear-compensating, polymer shaft seals to contain material around the vane shafts, eliminating cross-contamination of materials to the off leg; and,
  • Optional Clean-in-Place access panels with spin knobs providing quick access to the interior of the diverter for inspection, cleaning or sanitation purposes.

Three-way Seal Tite Gravity Diverters are constructed of carbon steel or stainless steel. They are available in 4-in. through 18-in.-square sizes (square to round transitions may be requested). Ordering with an air cylinder actuator, an electric linear actuator, chain wheel or hand lever actuator is an option. Salina Vortex Corp., (+1) 785-825-7177

Scales

RoughDeck BDP features a low-profile design that accommodates barrels, drums and pallets. BDP ramps sit flush with the ground in both stationary and portable installations, eliminating speed bumps. An optional portability kit allows for field retrofit of the stationary BDP model. To prevent damage, the load cells and cables are recessed into structural steel channels, and the junction box is accessible from the top while fully enclosed for protection. Users can choose a mild steel model with a diamond treadplate deck for industrial applications or a 304 stainless steel model with a smooth deck for hostile environments. The stainless steel model has optional welded-seal stainless steel load cells for corrosive or washdown applications. A variety of digital weight indicators are available for vivid weight display. Waterblaster

The 500-horsepower waterblaster represents the highest power rating in the Jetstream line, which had previously been available up to 300 hp. The 500-hp quintuplex pump delivers a maximum of 20,000 psi for applications where high pressures and high-volume flows are needed for optimum cleaning. Flows range from 40 gpm at 20,000 psi to 100 gpm at 8,000 psi. The 500-hp unit is available in PTO or transmission drive.

Operating at pressures up to 40,000 psi, the company's industrial high-pressure waterblasting equipment is suitable for a wide range of industrial cleaning and surface prep applications. Product offerings include a complete line of skid- and trailer-mounted pump units, control guns, valves, hoses, replacement parts and nozzles. Among their benefits are the following features:

  • Pressure convertibility — Operator can convert a unit to 10,000, 20,000 or 40,000 psi in the field with minimal tools in minutes, rather than hours.
  • Ease of maintenance — The cartridge-style, patented UNx pump design facilitates preventative maintenance and valve replacement, bringing control guns and UNx fluid ends back to like-new condition.
