Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico were about 9.7 million mt in November 2006, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. This was about 8.4% lower compared with shipments for November 2005. Year-to-date shipments totalled about 115.5 million mt, virtually unchanged from the previous year.

Clinker production totaled 7.5 million mt in November 2006, a 3.5% decrease compared with 2005. Year-to-date clinker production was about 82.1 million mt, up 1.6%.

Masonry cement shipments were 390,000 mt in November 2006, a 15.0% decrease compared with shipments in November 2005. Total shipments for the year were about 5.1 million mt, nearly even with the 2005 period.
