Portland and blended cement shipments in the United States and Puerto Rico totaled 7.45 million mt in December 1999, 1% more than the revised shipment data for December 1998, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Cumulative shipments through December 1999 totaled 107.2 million mt, a 6% increase compared with those of the same period in 1998. Clinker production totaled 6.88 million mt in December, 3% more than the production data for December 1998. Cumulative production through December 1999 was 77.2 million mt, a 2% upturn compared with that of the same period in 1998. Masonry cement shipments of 315,785 mt in December were 1% less than revised data for December 1998. Cumulative shipments through December 1999 were 4.4 million mt, a 10% increase compared to 1998.
