Tire recycling soars thanks to cement plants, report says

A reported released last week by the Rubber Manufacturers Association indicates that 80% of used tires were recycled in 2003, an all-time high. The primary use for scrap tires, either in whole or shredded form, is fuel for cement kilns and other processes. The report explains how scrap tires can provide a cleaner alternative to coal and other traditional fuel sources.
