International Cement, the premier conference and exhibition showcase for the cement industry for more than 35 years, recently announced part of its program and a revised plant tour offering for this year's event in Rosemont (Chicago), Ill., Dec. 8-11, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center (formerly the Rosemont Convention Center).

The plant tour will be Lone Star Industries' Oglesby, Ill., facility. Oglesby was the first site at which portland cement was produced in the State of Illinois in 1892. Lone Star has operated the plant since 1982. The 1,850-tpd production line was recently awarded a permit to burn whole tires. A mid-kiln tire burning system was scheduled to be installed during a planned kiln outage in August 2002 and should be available for viewing in time for IC2002. A mixing air system will be installed in October to reduce potential CO emissions. Plans are to fully automate the tire handling system in 2003.

Among the confirmed speakers offering presentations at IC2003 are:

  • Paul Yhouse, President and CEO, Holcim (US) Inc., who will deliver the Keynote Address. In November, Yhouse will assume the duties as Chairman of the Board for the Portland Cement Association.

  • David Czechowski, Manager — Economic Research, PCA, who will provide an industry outlook and forecast for the U.S. and Canada.

  • Jan Prusinski, Executive Director, Slag Cement Association.
