The American Portland Cement Alliance's Occupational Health and Safety Committee is sponsoring a Risk Communications Workshop at the Chicago Marriott O'Hare Hotel. The workshop will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14 and end at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15. The Chicago Marriott O'Hare Hotel is located 20 minutes by shuttle or public transport from O'Hare International Airport.
The workshop will concentrate on building and sustaining positive relationships with employees, the community, government, and the media through daily communications, as well as during crisis risk management.
This workshop is recommended for anyone working in the cement industry with the responsibility for communications. Plant and human resource managers; environmental, health, and safety (EHS) professionals; and communications, technical support, and marketing personnel involved in risk management should attend.
Sessions will include:
* Definition of risk communications and cement industry issues in 1999;
*Media interviews and interactive training;
*Tenets of risk communication and panel discussions with plant managers and industry communications managers; and
*Role-playing communications during crisis management.
Nationally known speakers will include:
Dr. Vince Covello of Center for Risk Communications; Janine Reid of Janine Reid Associates; and Dr. Katherine Rowan of Purdue University.
Each attendee will receive a workbook with take-home information from the workshop speakers.
