PCA lowers 2000 forecast for cement consumption

Recent revision in construction statistics along with lower than previously expected highway construction activity have resulted in an interim revision in the Portland Cement Association's construction and cement forecast, according to the association's chief economist, William D. Toal.
According to the adjusted forecast, portland cement consumption is now expected to run 107 million mt for 2000, a 2% increase from 1999 figures. The original spring forecast projected 110.9 million mt in 2000.
