Continuous Measuring DevicesThese CM devices provide accurate readings of materials in bins as deep as 200 ft (70 meters), according to the manufacturer. The units provide readings for both dry and liquid materials. They are also said to eliminate the need for a worker to climb on top of a container to obtain a level reading. Instead, a weighted bob is lowered into the container on a cable. Monitor Manufacturing, fax: (+1) 630-365-5646

Particle Size Monitor An upgrade for this company's PSM-400 on-line particle size monitor has been announced. The upgrade expands the unit's ability to measure on-line, in real time, five particle size fractions of as many as three slurry sample flows. Particle size distributions with p80s as coarse as 600 and as fine as 25 microns can be accommodated. Accuracy is said to be +/-1.5% to two standard deviations. Gamma-Metrics, (+1) 619-450-9811

Transfer Sleeves Giant transfer sleeves manufactured from nylon satin material offer properties to spout dusty material into round or square containers. This nylon satin material will pass up to 19 cfm (0.54 cm/min) of air per sq ft (0.0929 meter squared),allowing the air to filter out through the fabric. It is made of high-quality nylon woven fabric and maintains a slick finish to prevent build up of dust on the inside of the sleeve. The sleeve can be laundered and dries quickly for in-house maintenance. Sifter Parts & Service, (+1) 800-367-3591

Vibrating Cage This vibrating cage for silos promotes the flow of dry bulk goods with poor flowing characteristics, which tend to build up. The cage is said to fluidize even lumpy materials as well as powdery, granular, or shredded goods. The unit can be installed in all silo cones, containers, or slides. An unbalanced motor vibrates the basket through a joint. To avoid compression of the goods, the vibration is horizontal only, and the internal cage vibrates in direct contact with the goods. For optimum vibration frequency for each bulk material, a range of motors with differing rpm is offered, each with a different range of frequencies. Feed Bin A nearly 2-ft cubed (0.06 meter cubed) sanitary feed bin offers a way to store and transfer material to a receiver. The bin is constructed of 304 stainless steel and offers a polished, food-grade interior. With a 70 degrees slope, the bin allows material to flow and be discharged through the bottom to a pneumatic line. An inline valve introduces air into the conveying lineensuring all material is conveyed into the receiver. Vac-U-Max, (+1) 973-759-4600

Automatic Palletizers This company has introduced the Chrono-Pal range of automatic palletizer systems with a throughput range of 400 to 4,000 bags per hour, using both high- and low-level formats. Special palletizing programs and continuous in-line bag transport are the key factors in sustaining this performance. The PL- 4000HS's modular construction is easily adapted to suit different plant layout requirements. Advanced routines incorporated into the control system assist with operation flexibility and reliability. The continuous in-line bag transport method allows incoming bags to be monitored and consecutively numbered by a photocell at the infeed position of the acceleration belt. Imaging System What is said to be the first uncooled infrared imaging system to offer measurement capabilities has been introduced. The Thermovision 570 is a long-wave, high-resolution FPA imager incorporating a 320- 240 yen-pixel microbolometer detector. A built-in lens further enhances its utility in condition monitoring applications. Measurement range is -4 degrees to 930 degrees F(-30 degrees to 500 degrees C); 2,700 degrees F (1,482 degrees C) with its built-in filter; and 3,600 degrees F (1,968 degrees C) with a special, optional filter. Accuracy is +/-2% of range. AGEMA Infrared Systems, (+1) 201-867-5390

Alarm System The LSC alarm/annunciator system can be expanded and modified by cross-linking several modules to meet particular application requirements. The LSC is designed to display and retransmit alarms and operational events in a variety of applications including building services, process control, and factory automation. A typical system is built up from three modules: the basic module, panel module, and relay module. The basic and relay modules may be surface or DIN-rail mounted, while the panel module consists of a panel-mounted remote interface and control unit. All modules are designed for plug-in bus networking. EAO Highland, +44 1444-236000

Particle Sizer The EPCS-CE particle sizer is designed with advanced ceramics and solid state optics. The unit produces continuous particle size data and allows simultaneous data collection/interpretation at a remote location. The system gives plant operators the ability of knowing the size distribution of their product throughout the entire production run from the control room. Such a continuous size record provides a tool for quality control and assurance. The system is said to offer a long maintenance cycle (one or two months) and allow the operators to compensate for plant- or process-induced electrical noise or particle deposition in the instrument from the control room. Cascade Chute These cascade chutes consist of a series of truncated, oppositely inclined cones, supported by straps inside a wind shroud. As material flows through the chute, the bulk particles remain tightly packed together and the release of dust is minimized. Air movement is eliminated by the low velocity of the loading operation. This prevents dust-entrained air being dragged down the chute, which would create dust at the exit point. Material traverses the chute at the rate of about 2 meters per second. Baghouse Monitor This non-contact electrodynamic particulate and baghouse emissions monitor is expandable to four channels of dust monitoring and recording. A patent was recently granted to the unit for recognizing that the DC triboelectric signal could be unstable due to probe surface-related effect and that measuring the AC signal overcame this shortcoming. The system includes PC software for full reporting and analysis and a profiling feature for broken bag location. The unit is capable of working in dry and humid applications, as well as at low dust concentrations. PCME, (+1) 708-754-9121

Filter Bag The FB-900 offers hot gas filtration in high-temperature applications. The FB-900's temperature resistance is 900 degrees F (468 degrees C) during continuous operation and as high as 1,050 degrees F (552 degrees C) for short excursions. The woven glass fiber is specially coated to give it improved durability at higher temperatures. This special construction reduces failures due to thermal excursions and minimizes the need to cool the gas. The glass fiber is a continuous textile grade, high-purity silica fiber with an average diameter of 6.5 microns. The unit can be retrofitted into existing baghouses. 3M, (+1) 800-328-1687

Level Switch This compact level switch detects high and low levels of dry materials with densities between 5 and 65 lb/ft cubed (80 and 1,042 kg/meter cubed). The switch is said to eliminate bin overflows that cause product waste and prevent product outages when the switch is used for inventory reordering. Because of its compact design, it is ideal for small vessels, such as dry bulk packaging hoppers and feed bins. This electromechanical switch uses a synchronous motor to rotate a paddle. When paddle rotation is stopped by material, the motor stalls and causes a relay to activate an external red LED alarm. With 31/44-in. (6-mm) mounting, the switch is easy to install and requires no special tools. Levelite Store, (+1) 800-975-3835

Level Control The Roto-Bin-Dicator point level controls now include a heavy-duty motor to provide extra protection against bin vibration and high temperatures. The control's paddle wheel shaft rotation, motor condition, and component and clutch failure are monitored by internal diagnostics, which force the output into the alarm mode should failure occur. An external function test eliminates the need to remove the cover, preventing personnel exposure to live circuitry. Bindicator, (+1) 810-987-2700

Tire Shredder System This redesigned automated tire shredding system shreds passenger tires and most truck tires into cubes to be reused or recycled in a variety of applications. Steel-belted radial tires can be processed as easily as bias-ply tires using this process. The shredder can process as many as 6 tph, while reducing passenger car tires to 1- 1 yen-in. (25- 25 yen-mm) nominal chips. It uses two separate screening systems to increase efficiencies. Oversized shreds are recirculated to the cutting knives for additional reduction.
