Glens Falls Lehigh Cement Co., Glens Falls, New York The top of a 180-ft clinker silo is accessible from an adjacent building. Even with the properly installed hand-rail system that encircles the top of the silo, Glens Falls Lehigh employees decided that extra protection was needed from the toe plate to the top handrail. This extra protection would eliminate the potential for serious falls, especially during the winter months when slippery conditions may exist. An employee came up with the idea of installing contractor fencing on the handrails at a fraction of what a contractor would have charged for such a project. The project was completed in about six months.
