As anticipated in Cement Americas' October 1999 issue (p. 3), Michael B. Clarke has been named president and CEO of Lone Star Industries, which was recently purchased by German building materials giant Dyckerhoff AG for about $1.2 billion. Clarke's previous position as president of Glens Falls Lehigh (partly owned by Dyckerhoff competitor Heidelberger Zement AG) has been filled by Alan Redeker.
Before assuming his new duties for Glens Falls, the 33-year cement industry veteran spent slightly more than one year as vice president, operations at Virginia-based Roanoke Cement Co., which owns and operates one cement plant near Roanoke and 12 terminals throughout Virginia and North Carolina. Redeker also worked for California-based Kaiser Cement Corp. for 18 years, and for Medusa Cement Co. until its takeover by Southdown in 1998.
"I have known Mike Clarke for several years and know that he is well respected in the industry, and I hope that I can live up to the fine example that he has set," Redeker said. "I am pleased to be filling this position and happy to be joining the organization. I am working to make the transition as smooth as possible."
