Mechanical Air Separators A new brochure on The Raymond Mechanical Air Separator is now available. These separators produce material with high uniform fineness; operate in open or closed circuit; are excellent for de-dusting; can provide drying and cooling; and feature the single or double whizzer for faster separation of fines and more positive rejection of oversize, according to the manufacturer. The product is built in 11 sizes ranging from 4 to 24 ft diam. The operation cycle is described in the brochure. Material enters the hollow shaft (center feed pipe) and drops to the rotating distributor plate below. The material is then displaced into the upward sweep of circulating air developed by the fan in the top chamber of the drum. Airstreams guide particles to the outer cone, then the air returns through the inner cone. Highlighted within the text are single whizzer air separators, used for coarser separations to about 10% to 15% R74 microns (85% to 90% passing 200 mesh), which is optimal for de-dusting and raw mix cement operations. The double whizzer air separator includes two rows of whizzer blades for finished material up to 0.5% to 1.0% R44 microns (99% to 99.5% passing 325 mesh) and in finished cement circuits 2800 to 6000 Blaine or masonry cements.
