Separation Technologies, a Titan America business, and Lafarge Cement UK have agreed to work together to build and operate fly ash separation plants in the UK and Ireland. Lafarge will handle development and operation, while Separation Technologies will support the marketing and implementation efforts with their technology, engineering, equipment, and technical support.
The joint ash management solution for coal-fired power generating plants will eliminate the need to transport and landfill the fly ash. The resulting ProAsh will be marketed to UK and Irish concrete manufacturers as a partial replacement for portland cement. The separated carbon-rich material will be returned to the power plant as supplemental fuel. Additional benefits will reduce the quantity of raw materials needed for cement manufacturing as well as a reduction in CO2 emissions.
