The first New York City project to use insulated concrete forms (ICFs) for multifamily residences will provide housing for low-income families in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood in Brooklyn. Lafarge partnered with Habitat for Humanity-New York City, supplying a total of 200 tons of cement for the nine Halsey Street homes.
In attendance at a mid-November ICF demonstration by representatives from the city's cement and concrete industries were members of companies and organizations that donated construction materials for the homes, including Lafarge, Greco Brothers, Tilcon, New York Poly Steel, and the New York City Concrete Promotion Council. Roland Lewis, executive director of Habitat for Humanity-New York City, paid tribute to project participants: “We thank our industry partners, who generously contributed their expertise and product so we could pioneer the use of insulated concrete forms in New York City. Our future homeowners will benefit by saving money on energy bills, by living in more comfortable ‘green' environments, and by having safer, stronger homes.”
