The 36th annual International Cement Seminar and Exposition, sponsored by Cement Americas, will focus on expansion and the environment. The event will be held Dec. 3-6 at the Charleston Area Convention Center in Charleston, S.C.
Among the scheduled highlights of International Cement 2000 are tours of Blue Circle's 760,000-ton-capacity Harleyville Plant, Holnam's Holly Hill Plant, and Blue Circle/Kinder Morgan's Port of Charleston Terminal.
The traditional golf outing is scheduled for early arrivals on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Charleston National Country Club.
In addition to the conference presentations, there will be more than 100 companies displaying their equipment and services for the cement industry. Exhibit hours are: Sunday, Dec. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. (held in conjunction with a cocktail reception); Monday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday, Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Below is a selection of companies with booths on the exhibit floor, their booth numbers, and descriptions of products or services they will have on display at the seminar.
ABB Automation ABB Automation manufactures gas analyzers and sampling systems for measurement of CO, NO, SO subscript 2, and O subscript 2 in cement production and emission monitoring, as well as gas chromatographs, mass spectrometers, physical property analyzers, and water quality analyzers. On display will be the Uras 14 infra-red and Limas 11 ultra-violet photometers and the Magnos 17 paramagnetic oxygen analyzer from the Advance Optima modular range of continuous gas analyzers. A new sample cooler and gas feed unit for conditioning the sample gas prior to analysis also will be introduced.
A-C Equipment Services A-C Equipment Services specializes in supplying parts, construction services, technical assistance, and engineering, for rotary kilns, regardless of manufacturer. Parts manufactured include rollers, rings, gearing, bearings, and seals.
Albarrie Canada Ltd. Albarrie Canada is introducing Meteor fabric filter bags manufactured from volcanic rock ultimately lowering baghouse pressure drops in cement industry applications when compared to PTFE membrane laminated filtration fabrics. Albarrie also will present a technical paper during the conference proceedings to review actual case history data from a modern cement facility in order to compare diagnostic testing methods with traditional laboratories when evaluating fabric filters.
AMECO North America AMECO offers a full line of stackers, reclaimers, blending systems, and shiploaders for handling all types of bulk material.
Barron Industries Barron Industries produces large custom engineered and manufactured mechanical draft fans and other ancillary air/gas handling equipment. Featured will be wear solutions, build-up solutions, and fan performance upgrades. Also, Barron will display information on its products and services including flow control and isolation dampers, single- and dual-wall-free standing metal stacks, multi-tube dust collectors and cyclones, cast steel access doors, electric and pneumatic double flap valves, metal bellows and fabric type expansion joints, turn-key systems and solutions, field balancing and vibration analysis, and field repair, erection, and installation.
Beumer Corp. Beumer Corp. will feature material-handling systems for raw materials, clinker, cement, and bagged products. The company also offers overland belt conveyor systems, high- capacity belt bucket elevators, high-capacity central chain bucket elevators, steel apron conveyors, palletizers, stretch/shrink-hood utilizers, pallet-less shrink wrapping systems, and bulk loading systems.
Cadence Environmental Energy Cadence Environmental Energy provides NOx reduction and waste to energy technologies. The company will feature its Feed Fork, a device mounted over the calcining zone which introduces solid energy- bearing waste, such as whole scrap tires to the center of the kiln. The waste fuel replaces as much as 25% of the kiln's fossil fuel requirements. Also featured will be Cadence's Mixing Air Turbo, which increases the air turbulence inside the kiln, enhancing combustion and lowering NOx emissions up to 50%, according to the company.
Canadian Overhead Handling Canadian Overhead Handling specializes in building custom overhead cranes. The company will feature videos, photos, and literature on some of their installations including powerhouse cranes, automotive (frame handling, frame turnover, and body marriage), aluminum industry (automatic anode stacking, hot metal, ignot handling, and pot shell transporting), steel mill, transfer cars, and automatic bulk handling.
Carondelet Corp. Carondelet Corp. will feature its stainless- steel castings. Parts the company offers include preferred cooler grates, pocket grates, replaceable lip dead grates, pusher plates, dead grates, chain hangers, inlet trays, drag chains, wear bars, hammers, installation hardware, T-Bolts, thimbles, dip tubes, and vortex rings.
Decker Industries Decker Industries will feature bulk handling techniques, silo discharge systems, mechanical conveyor and handling equipment as well as the design and construction of these facilities.
Dustex Corp. Dustex Corp. will feature its heavy industrial air pollution control equipment and systems including high-pressure pulse-air cleaned type baghouses and reverse-air cleaned type baghouses, all welded modular designs, all welded panel designs, and open structural designs. Also featured will be the company's acid gas scrubbing systems utilizing both dry and wet reagent feed systems, forced convective air to air heat exchangers, cyclone collectors, and cartridge type dust collectors.
Engineered Storage Products Engineered Storage Products Co. manufactures Peabody TecTank silos for dry bulk solids and liquid storage. The company's baked-on coatings are formulated for cement and minerals.
H+M Company H+M Company is a single source provider of engineering, construction, and process equipment installation service to industry. The company will provide corporate brochures featuring its Single Source Solution approach, which includes site selection, facility development, facility design, facility construction, equipment installation, start-up, and facility maintenance.
IGS Sealing Technology Group The IGS Sealing Technology Group will feature Webbco Flex-Steel metal-leaf seals, and IGS FabriSeal fabric seals. The Flex-Steel is 100% metal, which allows it to be used in high-temperature applications to 2,000ø F.
The FabriSeal is available in three temperature ranges - FabriSeal 500, FabriSeal 1000, and FabriSeal 2000. The FabriSeal AT sealing system will be introduced during the seminar.
IST-Quadtek IST will feature the Quadtek Spyrometer II imaging and sensing system for the kiln and cooler. In addition to its combination of real time video with a scanning pyrometer, the product provides 32 temperature-measurement areas on a PC monitor. Spreadsheets can be developed to filter the Spyrometer temperature information and provide alarm points. The camera zoom feature allows operators to zoom in on any particular part of the video image. Snapshots of the flame shape, burning zone temperature, or cooler grate can be taken at any time by the operator. Different set-up options can also be stored and recalled allowing a wider use of Spyrometer as a process investigation tool to identify the causes of occasional disturbances in the kiln or cooler.
James Instruments Inc. James Instruments will feature its non-destructive testing equipment, including moisture meters, slump meters, and air meters. Also on display will be the latest IQM modular system for calculating the strength of maturing concrete, facilitating early form removal and enhance safety.
JBC Industries JBC Industries will feature its ATD PowerShot System, which can remove material rings, build-up, and chokes in kilns, pre-heater towers, and feeder systems. The system delivers a high-pressure blast of carbon dioxide from the outside of a kiln or silo. Also featured will be the company's newest product, the JBC Filling Stand IP with Pump, which comes with a rebuilding table, a 360ø vice, and all tools necessary for rebuilding and maintaining the PowerShot system.
Marietta Structures Corp. Marietta Structures will feature its industrial storage silos, stacking tubes, and reclamation tunnels, which the company designs, constructs, inspects, repairs, and modifies. Marietta's silos are constructed with jumpform, slipform, and stave construction techniques. The company's repair forces use a variety of techniques including poured concrete, gunite, post tensioning, epoxy injection, and steel fabricating.
Martin Engineering Martin Engineering will spotlight bulk material handling systems and services. On exhibit will be 2-, 4-, and 6-in. discharge models of the XHV Big Blaster Air Cannon, with all-metal construction for high temperature applications like pre-heater towers. Martin will also feature systems and services to improve belt conveyors, including belt cleaners and transfer point seals. Martin Dust Management will offer technologies to control the release of airborne dust from plant conveying and material handling operations.
Menardi Menardi offers filter bags, cages, and tensioning assemblies for raw mill, finish mill, kiln, or clicker cooler baghouses. Featured products will be the Pop-Top, Menardi's proprietary filter bag and cage assembly for quick changeouts; MikroTex, high-efficiency expanded PTFE membrane laminate for surface filtration; and SDF, a uniform high-efficiency media.
Northeast Valves & Systems Inc. Northeast Valves & Systems will feature its all-cast Double Flap Airlock valves for dry material handling, thermal processing, and dust control. The valves have cast-iron or stainless steel housings and are available in full height or short height. Other featured products will be swing valves and ZFB slide gates, available in round or square models.
Ormat Ormat will feature the Ormat Energy Converter, a heat recovery power system. It converts otherwise wasted heat energy from cement plant processes into grid-compatible electricity for sale to the local utility or for use in the plant. The converter, like steam power plants, is based on the Rankine Cycle, but uses a non-freezing, ozone-friendly organic working fluid, which can operate with the typical heat source found in the cement plant processes such as clinker cooling air and exhaust gases. The self-contained, fully automatic energy converter produces grid-compatible power. Thermal energy contained in the heat sources is transferred to the converter by heat transfer fluid flowing through the vaporizer. The working fluid is vaporized at elevated temperature and pressure.
Pennsylvania Crusher Corp. Pennsylvania Crusher Corp. manufactures a range of crushers and a posimetric feeder for feeding crushers. The company will display its coal and limestone pulverizers and bin discharge applications.
Phillips Kiln Services Phillips Kiln Services offers a range of mechanical services for kilns, calciners, and other industrial roller-supported equipment. Phillips will be showing videos of their Hot Alignment method and in-situ grinding method, as well as a 14-minute video, "From the Grout Up," showing a kiln installation. They will also display a PKO-Beam model, an electronic ovality measurement device using their proprietary ovality measurement software, PODDMan. Walter Gebhart, developer of the Hot Alignment method will be available to answer questions and also to demonstrate the PKO-Beam. Other Phillips products include high-efficiency seals, graphite lubrication blocks, OPG-4 gear lubrication, and new or sleeved support rollers.
Portland Cement Association Portland Cement Association, representing cement companies in the U.S. and Canada, conducts market development, engineering, research, education, and public affairs programs. Visitors to the PCA booth will be able to meet PCA staff and obtain information, publications, and other resources on cement manufacture.
Procedair Industries Inc. Procedair Industries will feature technology to control dust emissions from cement plants and to meet stringent regulations, particularly when burning alternative fuels.
Richwood Industries Richwood Industries will feature its Cushion Arc impact idler. The company claims the product's design eliminates the standard problems of bending shafts, constant maintenance, and irreparable impact damage experienced with the old, three-roller type idlers. The full line of belt solutions also will be shown.
Roberts & Schaefer Co. Roberts & Schaefer Co. will feature its full-service facility engineering and construction management services. The company can also design and supply in-pit crushing, overland conveying, material handling and storage, operator-less load-outs/terminals, and automation systems.
Robinson Industries Inc. Robinson Industries will feature its ID and FD fans, blowers, high temperature fans to 2,000ø F, and exhausters for ventilation, air cleaning, and combustion.
Royal Wire Products Inc. Royal Wire Products, Inc. will feature its air pollution bag cages, venturis, oval cages, and form lock cages. Royal Wire offers a line of spun aluminum, basic, galvanized and stainless steel venturis. Each form lock cage is designed specifically for the customer. The lock holds the cage in the correct position and will not allow up-lift.
San-Con Industries Inc. San-Con Industries specializes in the construction of reinforced concrete jumpform and slipform storage silos, foundations, tunnels, stacking tubes, and lowering wells. The company will also feature concrete restoration, maintenance, and repairs.
Sloan Brothers Co. Sloan Brothers Co. will display the latest technology in oil and grease lubrication systems for rotary vane compressors and other equipment. A full-size, operating Watchman lubrication system will be available for inspection.
Spraying Systems Co. Spraying Systems Co. provides a range of hydraulic and two-fluid spray lance designs for gas conditioning towers, in-duct cooling, and secondary fuel injection. In addition, the company will feature spray nozzles and customer systems packages for dust control, lubrication, and humidification.
Stanam Industries Inc. Stanam Industries offers solutions to build-ups at high temperature and clogging problems in storage units. Featured products will be AIRCHOC standard, AIRCHOC high temperature, Powernet, Gironet, Airnet, Obturator, and Soligom.
Thermoteknix Systems Ltd. Thermoteknix Systems will feature its ThermaScope, the company's latest digital infrared imaging products, as well as the new model Centurion TK25 infrared linescanner, which be launched exclusively at the seminar. The radiometric, remote-controlled ThermaScope provides process control through complete imaging and temperature measurement inside kilns. The TK25 is a high-speed linescan system features enhanced security, dual-skinned casting, built-in optional air or water cooling for hot climate usage, and built-in air purge plenum chamber providing uniform air mixing.
TurboSonic TurboSonic will feature its SoniCool Evaporative Gas Cooling and Conditioning, TurboSorb Semi-Dry Scrubbing, SonicBURN Waste Fuel Combustion, and Dry Fog Dust Suppression systems. SoniCool provides temperature and humidity control to condition flue gases and particulate. Gases are rapidly cooled from more than 2,400ø to as low as 240øF. The TurboSorb scrubber treats industrial process gas streams, removing acid gases of SO subscript 2, SO subscript 3, HCI, and HF, and ammonia compounds. The system uses alkalis such as calcium, potassium, and sodium-based slurries or solutions to achieve higher removal efficiencies of SO subscript 2 and HCI than traditional dry scrubbers. The SonicBURN delivers an atomized spray for combustion of sludges, waste oils, emulsions, and solvents. The Dry Fog Dust Suppression system controls all types of respirable and larger airborne dust and mists. It operates at low water pressures and requires no chemicals. The Turbotak Atomizing Nozzles are two-phase nozzles that feature internal mixing zones to achieve control over droplet size and distribution. Spray volumes range from less than 1 gpm to more than 100 gpm.
Unidex Group Inc. Unidex Group will display packaging goods including bulk bags and multiwall paper bags. The company offers a full range of custom produced multiwall bags with valves with two to five wall construction.
