Set in the Heart of America, the 2005 IEEE-IAS/PCA Cement Industry Technical Conference, slated for May 15-20 at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center, is located in the center of Kansas City, Mo.

In addition to the array of tutorials, technical paper presentations, and events for spouses, this year's event continues the poster sessions program introduced last year in Chattanooga, Tenn. These sessions are dynamic small-group discussions on a variety of topics.

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour three major area cement plants this year (see “Plant Tour” sidebar, Page 15): Monarch Cement's Humboldt facility and Ash Grove Cement Co.'s Chanute operation on May 19, and Lafarge North America's Sugar Creek, Mo., plant on the morning of May 20.

This year's exhibition hall featuring more than 100 companies displaying their products and services for attendees. Additional companies also are hosting hospitality suites throughout the Crown Center. What follows is a listing of every company (with booth locations) scheduled at press time to exhibit at this year's IEEE-IAS/PCA conference. Available contact information also is provided.

In 2001, the company started a program to increase cement capacity from 500,000 tpy to 1.2 million tpy by 2006. Today, Monarch has the capacity to produce 850,000 tpy of clinker. There are two kilns at Monarch, installed from 1971 to 1974. They are 12-ft diam × 165 ft long. One has been modified to a down draft calciner with a 1,700-tpd capacity. The other is a four-stage preheater, scheduled for modification in 2006.

Ash Grove Cement Co.'s Chanute, Kan., plant is the company first cement plant, which was completed in 1908. The plant has undergone an extensive two-phase modernization, beginning in 2001, when a new kiln line was commissioned.
