Holnam Inc. announced in early September that it will close its Fort Collins cement plant in La Porte, Colo. A specific date has yet to be determined, but year's end is the target.
The Fort Collins plant began operations in 1927 and was originally owned by Ideal Basic Industries. Ideal merged with the Dundee Cement Co. in 1990 to form Holnam. In 1998 the plant received awards from the Governor's Office, Larimer County, and the Colorado Contractors Association for its environmental performance.
About 100 employees will be laid off or transferred to other Holnam facilities. The closing follows the recent start-up of the company's expanded plant in Florence, Colo.
