The Maine Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has designated the Dragon Cement plant and quarry as a State Significant Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. A dedication plaque was presented to the company at ASCE's annual meeting in Rockport on May 25.

Dragon was chosen for the historic designation because its 750,000-tpy Thomaston cement plant is the only such facility in New England and has been in continuous operation since 1928. The plant underwent a $50 million modernization in 2004. This was the first such overhaul since previous owner Martin Marietta rebuilt the operation in 1971.
