Mid-September saw the layoff of 30 to 50 employees at Dixon-Marquette Cement Co. of Dixon, Ill., according to reports in Sauk Valley Online. The move appears to be a part of the takeover of Dixon-Marquette by Cemex, since all inquiries about the layoffs were directed to Jorge Perez, an official the Monterrey, Mexico-based company. Dixon-Marquette employed about 120 people before the layoffs. According to Sauk Valley Online, one unconfirmed report said that all of those let go were union employees.
