Portland and blended cement shipments in the United States and Puerto Rico totaled 10.6 million mt in May 2001, 2% more than revised shipments for May 2000, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Cumulative shipments through May 2001 were 40.86 million mt, a 1% increase compared with the same period in 2000. Clinker production was 6.8 million mt in May, a 3% increase compared with May 2000. Cumulative production through May 2001 totaled just over 31 million mt, a slight decrease compared to 2000. Masonry cement shipments of 434,305 mt in May were 3% more than revised shipments for May 2000. Cumulative shipments through May were 1.77 million mt, a slight decrease on the year before.
