Where cement and concrete are concerned, so is the Portland Cement Association (PCA): in manufacturing, raising the quality of construction, improving the product and its uses, and contributing to a better environment.
PCA engages in research, market development, and educational work on behalf of its members — cement companies in the United States and Canada. (On Page 19 is a list of past recipients of the PCA Research Fellowship.) The makeup of today's PCA reflects these functions and the industry's diversity with a network of divisions and affiliate groups. This structure takes advantage of collaborations with allied organizations.
PCA's Washington, D.C., office ensures a working dialogue between governments and the cement industry regarding legislation and regulation. Key governmental working areas are public works, energy and the environment, safety and health, and trade and taxation.
The American Concrete Pavement Association, the industry's promotional arm for highways, streets, and airport paving, is a joint effort of cement suppliers and paving contractors.
The CTLGroup (formerly Construction Technology Laboratories, Inc.) conducts research, testing, and consulting engineering. Formerly PCA's research and development division, CTLGroup has operated as a separate, for-profit subsidiary of PCA since 1987.
Canadian operations are carried out by the Cement Association of Canada (CAC), with headquarters in Ottawa. In addition, CAC provincial offices work closely with the cement industry to provide regional support in market development and education.
