The SRMG corporate office has been named a winner of the 2009 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility, distinguishing the employer as a leading practitioner of workplace flexibility and effectiveness in Arizona and across the nation. The company was recognized at an event held at the Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort – Pavilion in mid-June.

The Sloan Awards are part of the When Work Works project, an ongoing initiative of Families and Work Institute, the Institute for a Competitive Workforce (an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce), and the Twiga Foundation.

As a result of the recent economic downturn, SRMG has become even more flexible by asking its employees to volunteer for reduced work weeks. The employees participating in this voluntary program can choose to reduce their work week (5, 10 or 20 percent) and for a determined period of time. They can choose to use their PTO for the time not worked, or can choose to take it unpaid, reducing their pay amount without affecting other company benefits. An extraordinary number of employees have volunteered for the reduced work week, and everyone is appreciative of this option as an alternative to layoffs.

“We aren’t surprised by the large number of employees who volunteered for reduced work week,” said SRMG President and CEO, Roger Smith. “Because we continue to be flexible in the workplace, employees recognize our company is a great place to work, and will always give back.”
