Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico were about 5.6 million mt in November 2009, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. This was 15 percent lower compared with shipments for November 2008. Year-to-date 2009 shipments were 66.3 million mt, down nearly 27 percent from the same period in 2008.

Clinker production totaled 4.3 million mt in November 2009, about 35 percent lower compared with 2008. Year-to-date production was 51.1 million mt, down about 27 percent compared to the same period in 2009.

Masonry cement shipments of nearly 158,000 mt in November 2009 were nearly 17 percent lower compared with shipments in November 2008. Year-to-date shipments were almost 2.02 million mt, down about 30 percent.
