Colombia Announces Investment in Infrastructure

Colombia’s Ministry of Transportation plans to invest $56 billion in transport infrastructure development until 2021 to improve the country’s infrastructure and enhance its regional competitiveness. Infrastructure construction is the largest market in the Colombian construction industry, with a value of $30.6 billion and a 52.8 percent share of the industry in 2012.

Siemens Multi-Drive System Powers Holcim Mill

The Siemens Drive Technologies Division has developed a new drive system for a cement mill as part of a joint project with Gebr. Pfeiffer SE. With an overall power rating of 11,500 kW and producing 450 metric tph of cement, the vertical mill is the most powerful of its kind in the world today. The mill will be operated by the Brazilian cement producer Holcim, which will commission the plant as part of a project to expand the capacity of its Barroso works in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais.

Capitol Aggregates Cement to Build Carbon Capture Plant

Texas-based cement producer Capitol Aggregates Cement, in conjunction with Austin-based Skyonic Corporation, is preparing to retrofit the world’s first commercial-scale carbon capture and mineralization plant at its San Antonio facility. The plant is expected to account for the profitable removal of more than 300,000 tons of carbon dioxide.
