Cement Totals—September 2011

Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico were about 7.0 million mt in September 2011, according to the USGS. This was 3.0 percent higher compared with shipments for September 2010. Total shipments for the year through September were approximately 53.8 million mt, slightly higher compared to the same period in 2010.

Clinker production totaled 5.8 million mt in September 2011, slightly lower than the output in September 2010. Production for the year through September was 45.7 million mt, slightly lower than that for the same period in 2010. Masonry cement shipments of about 160,000 mt for September 2011 were almost 7.0 percent lower compared with shipments in September 2010. Shipments for the year through September were 1.4 million mt, down 7.0 percent from those through September 2010.

September 2011 imports of cement and clinker of about 515,000 mt were down 21 percent from those in September 2010. Imports for the year so far totaled 4.74 million mt, down nearly 8.0 percent from those through September 2010.
