Contribution of product, engineering services and site labor to Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona's Net-Zero Energy home, enclosed in a panelized concrete forming system, garnered Scottsdale, Ariz.-based cement and aggregate producer Salt River Materials Group an "Excellence in Economic Development and Energy Leadership Award" from Arizona Governor Jan Brewer. Honoring partnerships, organizations and companies that implement development strategies for their respective region/rural/tribal communities in the past year, the award was presented during the 2010 Governor’s Rural and Regional Development Conference in Flagstaff.

Salt River partnered with Habitat of Central Arizona last year to build the market’s first Net-Zero Energy concrete framed affordable home; it demonstrated for production home builders how air-tight, high-performance construction can be achieved with locally available materials and techniques in competitive first-cost environments. Air-tightness was achieved with the HercuWall concrete forming system and spray foam insulation, combining for a robust building envelope. Shortly after its late-2009 completion, the project was recognized by U.S. Green Building Council CEO Rick Fedrizzi for attaining LEED for Homes Platinum status.
