Cement Shipments Jump 13% in February

Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in February 2020 were 6.4 million metric tons (Mt), an increase of 13% from shipments in February 2019, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through February totaled 13.3 Mt, an increase of 9.9% from those for the same period in 2019. The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in February 2020 were, in descending order, Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama. 

The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Arizona and Georgia) received 49% of February shipments.

Masonry cement shipments totaled 163,000 metric tons (t) in February 2020, a slight increase from those in February 2019. Shipments for the year through February totaled 353,000 t, essentially unchanged from those for the same period in 2019. The leading masonry cement-consuming states in February 2020 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia; these states received 61% of February shipments.

Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled 5.0 Mt in February 2020, an increase of 8.6% from production in February 2019. Production for the year through February totaled 10.6 Mt, an increase of 7.6% from the same period in 2019. The leading clinker-producing states in February 2020 were, in descending order, Texas, California, Florida, Alabama and Missouri.
