  • Reece Thompson, Wayne Trace High School, computer engineering, University of Cincinnati.

Names of the scholarship recipients will be permanently placed on the tower base of the wind turbines being built at LafargeHolcim’s Paulding plant, in recognition of the students’ hard work and achievement.

“It’s been great to partner with LafargeHolcim as they provide this important benefit to the community of Paulding while enhancing their environmental footprint with this clean, inexhaustible fuel source,” said Jereme Kent, CEO and general manager of One Energy. “The Megawatt Scholarship Program will contribute to the continued success of the community surrounding Paulding for years to come.”

Construction of three wind turbines at the Paulding facility began in December 2018, in line with the company’s commitment to finding alternative sources of clean energy that lower environmental impact. Once completed, the turbines will supply energy to the plant with any excess going to the surrounding community. They are expected to generate more than 12 million kWh annually, which could eliminate the equivalent of more than 9,000 tons of CO2.
