GCC’s Pueblo Plant Earns Energy Star Status

Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua’s (GCC) Pueblo, Colo., cement plant recently received Energy Star certification by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in recognition of its superior energy performance, reported The Pueblo Chieftain. The plant is the state’s only 2018 Energy Star certified manufacturing plant.

“Energy Star certified plants perform in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide,” Enrique Escalante, chief executive of GCC, said in a statement. “We’re proud to say that our Pueblo plant scored a perfect 100, proving it is tops in energy efficiency in manufacturing.”

Alex Alarcon, manager of the Pueblo plant, said the certification attests to the plant’s energy-saving initiatives and environmental protections.

GCC completed construction of the $325 million, highly automated plant in 2009 and began full operations a year later.
