PCA Supports Bipartisan Proposal to Increase Competition for Infrastructure Projects

The Portland Cement Association (PCA) announced its support for the Preserving America’s Infrastructure Dollars (PAID) Act, H.R. 5578, which is a new bipartisan legislative proposal that would increase competition for infrastructure projects and give states the tools needed to make the best use of taxpayer dollars.

January Cement Shipments Up 5.7 Percent

Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in January 2018 were about 5.8 million metric tons (Mt), up by 5.7 percent from shipments in January 2017, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in January 2018 were Texas, California, Florida, Missouri and Alabama, in descending order.

Reducing Cement Pre-Hydration Could Improve Quality

GCP Applied Technologies Inc. presented a research paper on improving the quality of cement from vertical roller mills by reducing pre-hydration during the 25th ASEAN Federation of Cement Manufacturers Technical Symposium & Exhibition. The company also showcased two new cement additive ranges – the TAVERO VM grinding aids and OPTEVA HE quality improvers.
