WBCSD Announces Strategic Partnership with GCCA

A strategic partnership between the recently chartered Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) and World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is intended to facilitate sustainable development of the cement and concrete sectors and their value chains, while creating work program synergies benefitting both organizations’ members. Work carried out by the WBCSD-hosted Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI) will be transferred to GCCA in 2019.

PCA Poll: Majority of Americans Concerned Over Wooden High-Rises

Three in four, or 74 percent, of Americans say proposals to allow taller buildings to be constructed with wood raise serious concerns for public safety, according to a nationwide poll conducted by Hart Research on behalf of the Portland Cement Association (PCA). Proposed code changes that would allow the use of mass timber in the construction of buildings up to 18 stories will be voted on in October by the International Code Council (ICC), which develops the model building code.

Mallet Leaves McInnis Cement

The McInnis Cement board of directors announced that Hervé Mallet, president and chief executive officer of McInnis since November 2016, is leaving the company. Chief Financial Officer Jean Moreau will assume the role of president and chief executive officer on an interim basis.

HeidelbergCement Reports Positive Quarterly Results

HeidelbergCement’s group revenue rose by 4 percent in the second quarter to €4.8 billion ($5.6 billion). Negative currency effects of €226 million ($264 million) had an adverse impact on revenue. Adjusted for currency and consolidation effects, revenue increased by 9 percent due to sales volume growth in all business lines and successful price increases.
