County Sues Sesco Cement for Environmental Concerns

The Harris County (Texas) Attorney’s Office filed a lawsuit accusing Houston-based Sesco Cement of violating the Texas Clean Air Act, Texas Solid Waste Disposal Act and the Texas Water Code, reported KHOU 11. The office alleges that cement powder from the facility has drifted off-site, causing health and safety risks to the public.

The McInnis Cement board of directors announced the appointment of Baudouin Nizet to the position of president and chief executive officer of the company, effective immediately. Nizet succeeds Jean Moreau, who served as the interim president and CEO since August 2018.

Carbon Capture Feasibility Study Begins at LafargeHolcim Plant

LafargeHolcim will conduct a joint study with Svante Inc., Total and Oxy Low Carbon Ventures (OLCV), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Occidental, to assess the viability and design of a commercial-scale carbon-capture facility at its Florence, Colo., cement plant. The study will evaluate the cost of the facility designed to capture up to 725,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year directly from the plant, which would be sequestered underground permanently by Occidental.
