Argos Reportedly Wants a Summit Materials Merger

Colombian industrial conglomerate Grupo Argos has reportedly approached Denver-based Summit Materials about a merger, according to Reuters’ sources. The company would combine its subsidiary Cementos Argos, which currently operates six U.S cement plants and 15 terminals, with Summit in a deal to further bolster its U.S. footprint.

March Cement Shipments Decrease Slightly

Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in March 2019 were 7.3 million metric tons (Mt), a slight decrease from the roughly 7.4 Mt in March 2018, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through March totaled 19.4 Mt, an increase of 2.4% from those for the same period in 2018. The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in March were, in descending order, Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama.

HeidelbergCement Appoints New Communication, Investor Relations Head

Christoph Beumelburg was named director of Group Communication & Investor Relations at HeidelbergCement. He will report to Dr. Bernd Scheifele, chairman of the managing board. The previous head of the function, Andreas Schaller, left to pursue opportunities outside of the organization.
