CEMEX Named to Texan by Nature 20

For the third consecutive year, CEMEX USA has been named to the Texan by Nature 20, recognizing its commitment to conservation and leadership in sustainability.

Texan by Nature is a conservation non-profit founded by former First Lady Laura Bush in 2011 to bring conservation and business together to positively impact natural resources, economic prosperity and the health of communities across Texas and beyond.

“Sustainability and conservation are integrated into our operations across CEMEX, and we work to make positive contributions that can help protect natural resources and wildlife,” said CEMEX USA Regional President – Texas Region Scott Ducoff. “We continue to seek additional opportunities to deepen our commitment to sustainability and demonstrate how industry and nature can thrive side by side, implementing programs that emphasize education, innovative technology and thoughtful land and resource conservation.”

CEMEX has a longstanding commitment to sustainability and conservation, which it demonstrates through its strategic partnerships and environmentally friendly programs. In Texas, the company has partnered with landowner Josiah Austin in the El Carmen Land and Conservation Co. to actively conserve and manage an important ecological corridor at the Texas-Mexico border, helping restore wildlife while retaining the natural desert landscape near Big Bend National Park. In addition, CEMEX operations in New Braunfels are home to the Balcones Dry Comal Creek Wildlife Habitat Center that features more than 10 acres of restored prairie and pollinator gardens, as well as a vegetable garden and educational building for hands-on learning. CEMEX also developed and implemented a state-of-the-art water recycling plant at its Balcones Quarry in New Braunfels that reduces use of local water sources by 90%.

“From actively managing 27,000-acres of Chihuahuan Desert, to providing educational activities for students, educators and other visitors at their Balcones Dry Comal Creek Wildlife Habitat Center in New Braunfels, Texas, to providing innovative lower carbon product solutions, CEMEX exemplifies commitment to building a sustainable future,” said Joni Carswell, CEO and president of Texan by Nature. “We are excited to honor CEMEX’s leadership for the third year in a row as a leader in the Construction & Manufacturing Industry category for the 2021 Texan by Nature 20.”
