Cement Industry Advocates for Infrastructure, Sustained Funding

Leaders in the cement industry joined the Portland Cement Association (PCA) for its first D.C. Fly-In held May 24-25. Members of the association hailed Congress’ passage of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act as an important step in bringing the latest innovation and technology to America’s roads and bridges, but noted that there is more work to be done.

“The cement industry helped drive Congress toward the adoption of a long-term highway bill,” said A. Todd Johnston, executive vice president of government affairs at PCA. “But the need for additional investment in infrastructure does not end there. Our nation can benefit from modernized airports, for example. There is also a clear need for water infrastructure development to ensure public safety and the efficient transportation of goods along our nation’s waterways.”

The Fly-In marks a historical time for PCA as the association celebrates its centennial anniversary. Over the past century, PCA has become widely recognized as the authority on the technology, economics and applications of cement and concrete. Representing America’s cement manufacturers, PCA is a vocal advocate for sustainability, economic growth, sound infrastructure investment, and overall innovation and excellence in construction.
