Cemex Delivers 640 Affordable Homes in Colombia

Cemex has completed 640 apartment residences in Montería, Colombia, as part of an urbanization project being undertaken by the company in collaboration with the Colombian government. The full project comprises of 3,000 apartments divided into 96 four-story towers, each with recreational and green areas. The paving for the complexes will be done with concrete also provided by Cemex.

Colombian Housing Minister Luis Felipe Henao was present to inaugurate the homes at an event also attended by Cemex executives and other government representatives and members of the local community. Many of the recipients of the new homes are low-income families that have not had access to an affordable home in the past.

“The houses we are delivering in Montería are dignified, comfortable and high-quality homes like every needy Colombian deserves,” stated Minister Henao. “In this way, the National Government is supporting social investment so that more low-income families can have dignified housing.”

On April 7, Cemex subsidiary Cemex Latam Holdings announced it expects to participate in the construction of approximately 12,000 sustainable housing units in Latin America during 2014 as part of its continuous effort to strengthen its solutions based commercial offer.

“We are committed with the development of our region and are convinced that by promoting the construction of sustainable housing we are fostering well-being and creating value for all of our stakeholders,” said Carlos Jacks, CEO of Cemex Latam Holdings and president of Cemex in Colombia.
